Jungr web site
Barb Jungr has been an important presence on the British and international
music scene for many years. For thirteen of them she was half of
the duo Jungr and Parker. Since the early nineties she has turned
her talent to alternative cabaret, positioning herself on the cutting
edge of contemporary chanson in Britain. Picking great songs from
many genres and interpreting them in the language of the European
cabaret tradition has won her rave reviews and enthusiastic audiences.
Her acclaimed CD of classic and contemporary chansons, "Chanson-
The Space in Between" was voted one of the ten best jazz CDs
of 2000 by The Sunday Times (London, UK). Her most recent project
is "Every Grain of Sand", a collection of songs by Bob
Dylan, to be released in the spring of 2002.
Barb Jungr toured Canadian festivals a decade ago with Christine
Collister, presenting a show of songs of sin and salvation- "Hell
Bent-Heaven Bound". She would like to return with her new work.
Ms. Jungr Explains
"I have made a real furrow, which I plough relentlessly, of
text based material. I am an interpretive singer, I believe the
act of true interpretation to be an art - witness what great actors
do with other people's words. Consequently I sniff out and trail
anything that feels to me to have the kind of substance I want in
a lyric. I find it in Brel, in Ferre, in Prévert and Landesman.
In Davies, Dury, Costello and Robb Johnson. I find it in Dylan,
and feel that no-one has approached this man's work as chanson before.
Bringing to my palette great arrangers and musicians, and bringing
nuance out of the melody and lyric I hope brings them to the public
anew. That's why I am doing this, because if I am going to sing,
I want to be singing the best words there are."
