Jorge is dedicated to the creation and presentation of contemporary Flamenco compositions based firmly in tradition. In November of 2004, Jorge released the CD “Jorge Miguel - Flamenco”, a recording of all original compositions that remains true to the rules and tradition of Flamenco while still having a unique and personal flavour.
The Jorge Miguel Flamenco Ensembles style of Flamenco is full contact, hard-core. This is the real thing. Alegrias, Bulerias, Tangos and Sevillanas, the traditional songs and dances passed down through the generations after hundreds of years of development and growth. The arpeggios, rasgueados and alzapua of the Flamenco guitar, the escobillas, zapateado and llamadas of the Flamenco dancers, the cante jondo and chico of the Flamenco song, and the palmas, castanets and percussion driving the complex compound rhythms. This is true Flamenco, proud, complex and ageless.
The Jorge Miguel Flamenco Ensemble was formed in 2002 in Toronto, from some of the strongest musicians and dancers to be found in the world music scene with the goal of taking true Flamenco to audiences across Canada. The ensemble includes "el toque" (guitar), "el baile" (dance) and “el cante” (singing). These three elements are the heart and soul of Flamenco.
The Jorge Miguel Flamenco Ensemble performances have included Toronto’s Harboufront Centre and CNE Bandshell for Masala! Mendhi! Masti!, The Taste of the Danforth, Celebrate Toronto, Markham Jazz Festival, Luminato, Sunfest in London, Bella Coola Discovery Coast Music Festival and Musicfest on Vancouver Island and theatre presentations including the Glenn Gould Studio, Orillia Opera House, John Elliot Theatre in Halton Hills, River Run Centre in Guelph, Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts, Living Arts Centre in Mississauga, Aeolian Hall in London, The Sanderson Centre in Brampton and Memorial Hall at Harrison Hot Springs Festival, and Wise Hall in Vancouver.
